BASECAMP MASAI MARA

The grassy Masai Mara camp is Basecamp Explorer’s original lodge, opened in 1998.  Thanks to a robust reforestation effort, this camp is a tree-lover’s paradise and a haven for birdlife and monkeys. Each morning a symphony of birdsong wakes guests as the sun rises over the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, home to the greatest gathering of wild animals on the planet. The Reserve is only a short walk across a private suspension bridge. The Basecamp Masai women’s fair-trade handicraft project on-site provides an opportunity to engage with the local community and see how Basecamp is empowering individuals.

All tents have a riverside view along the Talek River, are fitted with one queen or two twin beds, en-suite showers, and a private balcony, where guests have direct view of the Masai Mara National Reserve. Family Tents are the perfect choice for families travelling with children. The tent has two separate wings, each featuring a double bed with two separate bathrooms. All Basecamp properties demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability by using solar-heating and electricity, recycling plastic, use of natural bath products, and composting of organic food waste.
